Severe RFI. Experiment failure.

Effelsberg (dgraham at Thu Jun 1 21:19:22 2006) Failure : RFI

Receiver severely overloaded by local TV channels at nearby frequencies. Some improvement after this experiment following insertion of extra IF filters and attenuation, preventing IF chain overload. So real experiments at this frequency should be better. But still not good.

Experiment carried out under same conditions as in F06U1: RFI, two circular polarization, no phase-cal.

Westerbork (tony foley at Fri Jun 2 11:35:34 2006) Minor failures : RFI

Wb used in phased array mode. RFI at low end of the band. We suspect German TV!

Noto (P. Cassaro at Fri Jun 16 19:31:42 2006) Failure :

Torun (Kaz Borkowski at Mon Jun 5 12:32:29 2006) Minor failures :

This note concerns the UHF experiments only. Shortly before the first experiment we could manage to install the Lange coupler to produce two circular polarizations instead of the linear polarization announced in the block schedule. Also, we failed to install the phase cal.

The MkII telescope was used (Jb2). During this session the Mk2 phase cal. signal was found to be too high and could not be easily reduced in strength. I therefore switched off the phas cal. signal for the entire session (for Mk2 only).
