Proposing Observations with the EVN
The following links may be useful to users who wish to write a proposal for EVN or Global VLBI observations.
- The EVN Call for Proposals announces forthcoming EVN sessions to the astronomical community. A much more detailed version of the proposal guidelines is also available. These documents now treat disk-based VLBI and e-VLBI together.
-
From 2007 all proposals to the EVN should be made using the Web-based Proposal Submission Tool, NorthStar. Please refer to the EVN NorthStar pages for further information regarding registering your details and using NorthStar. Global VLBI proposals should also be submitted using NorthStar, and there is no need to submit a separate proposal to NRAO.
-
In addition to proposals submitted for the ordinary proposal deadlines given in the call for proposals, the EVN also welcomes Target of Opportunity (ToO) proposals for rare and/or unpredictable events where there is limited opportunity to make scientifically important observations. The EVN Target of Opportunity Policy document describes the procedures for applying for such ToO observations. You should distribute your ToO proposal to the Directors and Schedulers of the requested stations, and also to certain EVN officials; the EVN ToO proposal distribution table collects the relevant contact details. Note that proposers should currently use the tex-based VLBI cover sheet to provide the observational details of their ToO proposal, not the on-line NorthStar tool.
- The EVN Status table lists the current VLBI technical status of the telescopes. The telescope sensitivities tabulated here are incorporated into the EVN Calculator.
- Lists of previously observed sources are maintained by both the EVN and the VLBA. The EVN list of previously observed sources can also be searched on position using the Bologna "Dira 2 database".
- Those observers wishing to make use of non-EVN antennas should consult the Code of Practice for non-EVN Observatories.
- If you're thinking of using Arecibo then you should have a look at the VLBI at Arecibo guide.
